Tess Garden Project
We have two Allotments on the Bridge End Road Allotment Association Site Somerby Hill, Grantham. The Garden Project is an alternative to the traditional day centre for people with Learning disabilities and mental health. The allotment is filled with vegetables, flowers etc all grown from seed. We even have a few chickens and a very loud Cockerel, so eggs are available too.
The Garden Projects offers support to those with mental health issues, learning and other disabilities. Through aiming:
- To improve health and well-being
- To improve self-esteem
- To improve concentration and focus
- To make new friends
- To learn new skills
- To be a part of the wider community
- To develop skills in poultry care
- To develop the understanding of recycling and eco-systems
A lot of the vegetables and flowers go for sale at the Community Café to the public, with the money we raise going back into developing the garden project by buying seeds, tools and equipment. The produce we grow is also used by the Community Café for the luncheon club.
If you feel like you would like to join us and be out in the fresh air please give us a call. There’s nothing like growing your own veg and you even get to take some home from time to time.
We would love to hear from you.
Tess CIC is always looking for new volunteers and businesses who can offer their services to the project. So far it’s received lots of help from the local community who have helped to complete work to clear weeds and maintain the site’s perimeter. If you would like to use the service, volunteer to help or donate please get in touch.
